Website Accessibility

Williamson County Schools (WCS) is committed to making its websites accessible to individuals with disabilities as required by law. WCS is in the process of meeting accessibility guidelines by using W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.

WCS is actively working on our websites across the district to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility standards. We are in the process of improving website accessibility with new goals while monitoring the websites regularly to maintain accessibility for all users, as well as being compliant to ensure all sites display correctly in current browsers on desktop and mobile devices.

Williamson County Schools has designed this website with numerous features designed to improve accessibility. These features are described below, and new ones will be added as we continue our commitment to meet accessibility standards.

  • Images contain ALT Text that describe them, aiding users with visual impairments who listen to the content of the site by using screen reading software.
  • Images, videos, and buttons contain a Title attribute that provide a sufficient tooltip for sighted users.
  • Headings uphold their purpose, are in hierarchy order, and assist visitors using screen reading software.
  • Text, Headings, and background colors are required to be high contrast.
  • Font styles for text, Headings, and hyperlinks are readable for sighted users.
  • Abbreviations are explained in web content using acronyms and abbreviations to provide a human-readable description or expansion (tooltip) of the abbreviation.
  • Videos produced by WCS are housed on YouTube, provide close captioning, and eliminated auto-play in order to adhere to those with disabilities.
  • Documents are provided as PDF files that can be viewed with most popular web browsers as well as Adobe.com’s free Acrobat Reader. The latest versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader integrate with most screen readers to read PDF files aloud.
  • Web pages are tested for compliance with accessibility standards and to identify possible barriers to accessibility on web pages.
