Character Development

At Clovercroft, we use the eight keys of excellence to teach character development. These lessons are taught by the classroom teacher and by the school counselors in the life skills classes. Our character keys are Ownership, Balance, Speak with Good Purpose, This is It, Failure Leads to Success, Integrity, Commitment and Flexibility.

Ownership is about taking responsibility for your actions. We live the key of balance when we remember what is important—family, friends and school. Speak with Good Purpose is thinking about what you say and using words that are positive and encouraging. This is It is focusing on the present moment.  Failure Leads to Success reminds us that we have to make mistakes to learn, so we reach high and learn from our mistakes.  Integrity is making sure that we live by our values. Commitment is setting goals and doing what we say we will do. Finally, flexibility is recognizing that things will change and we need to adapt to those changes and be willing to do things differently. Students explore these keys through readings, discussions and activities.

Stop and Think

A Fairview Elementary school counselor is encouraging her students to stop and think, and the district is encouraging others to embrace the concept as well.
